In the 1980's, computer science and production advanced greatly, as computers became smaller and affordable. Also advancing was the improvement of computers being able to share data. Towards the end of the decade, Tim Berners Lee was employed in CERN laboratories, Geneva, Switzerland. There worked on new ways to store info on computers, and improving communication systems. Also combining hypertext with the internet into his former project 'ENQUIRE' inspired program, the World Wide Web. It would take a lot of convincing for people to finally realize the potential of this hypermedia global computer networking system. In the future the web was improved, with the importation of new browsers and ever growing amount of web sites. In our industrialized world the web is an every day of our lives, as now we are able to do much more with it than before, with new variations of HTML and the ability to post videos, games, web apps, etc.
"I think the main thing to remember is that any really powerful thing can be used for good or evil. Dynamite can be used to build tunnels or to make missiles. Engines can be put in ambulances or tanks. Nuclear power can be used for bombs or for electrical power. So what is made of the Web is up to us. You, me, and everyone else. Here is my hope. The Web is a tool for communicating. With the Web, you can find out what other people mean. You can find out where they are coming from. The Web can help people understand each other. Think about most of the bad things that have happened between people in your life. Maybe most of them come down to one person not understanding another. Even wars. Let's use the web to create neat new exciting things. Let's use the Web to help people understand each other," Tim Berners Lee.
